ABOUT THE COVENANT

Based upon the stories of the Old Testament, The Covenant explores the dramatic characters and relationships of the Old Testament through the lens of families, faith, and the power of making and keeping covenants with God. The audience will see themselves in the struggles, setbacks, and successes of some of the greatest people of all time like Abraham, Joseph, Elijah, Daniel, Moses, David, Ruth, Esther and so many others. From patriarchs and prophets to saints and sinners, the audience will re-discover the oldest stories of all time in a way that will resonate with every faith tradition.

A Message from the Executive Producer

When I accepted the invitation to serve as the founding CFO of The Chosen, I had never worked on a film or television production before. Yet the experience became one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. I’m profoundly grateful for the trust the team placed in me and amazed by the global impact the series has had—far beyond anything any of us imagined.

That journey awakened a new calling in me: to create a series that brings the Old Testament to life in a way that resonates with modern audiences. This new project is not meant to replace the Bible, but to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and encourage people to live out its timeless truths.

One of the greatest lessons I carried forward from The Chosen is the incredible power of people coming together. Tens of thousands of individuals stepped up to support it financially. Those thousands became millions of viewers, and those millions became tens of millions. That kind of movement only happens when people believe in a story worth telling.

Several of Klavan’s novels have been adapted for film. True Crime was directed by and starred Clint Eastwood in 1999, and Don’t Say a Word became a 2001 thriller starring Michael Douglas. Donald Cammell’s 1987 film White of the Eye was based on Mrs. White, a novel Klavan co‑wrote with his brother, playwright Laurence Klavan.

Klavan has also written multiple screenplays, including the 1990 Michael Caine film A Shock to the System, based on the novel by Simon Brett, and the 2008 horror film One Missed Call, starring Shannyn Sossamon and Ed Burns. He later wrote the innovative movie‑in‑an‑app projects Haunting Melissa and Haunting Melissa 2: Dark Hearts. Most recently, he scripted Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer, a crime drama based on the true story of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.

Beyond fiction and film, Klavan has produced several satirical online video series, including Klavan on the Culture for PJ Media, The Revolting Truth for Truth Revolt, and A Very Serious Commentary for Blaze Media.

In 2016, Klavan published his first nonfiction book, The Great Good Thing: A Secular Jew Comes to Faith in Christ, a memoir chronicling his spiritual journey from secular Judaism and agnosticism to Christianity.

I am saddened by how little exposure to and understanding of the Old Testament many Christians have, but I am passionate in doing whatever I can do to remedy this spiritual and theological loss. As I have taught high school Bible studies, adult education classes, introduction to doctrine for sixth graders, or Bible stories to four-year olds, I have been driven by the desire to offer people a greater familiarity with God's Word and a greater confidence in understanding God's revelation of himself in its pages.
