Islamabad: A delegation of Christian community called on Senator A. Rehman Malik, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior & Narcotics Control, Former Federal Interior Minister, Senior Leader Pakistan Peoples’ Party at his residence in Islamabad. The delegation included Mr. Basharat Khokhar, Mr. Shamim Masih, Mr. Peter, Mr. Samson Sohail and others. Senator A. Rehman Malik showed full solidarity with fellow Pakistanis. He said under the flag of Pakistan we all are one and stand united for the wellbeing and prosperity of Pakistan.
In the meeting matters and problems pertaining to Christian community were discussed in detail. The delegation apprised Senator A. Rehman Malik about the Christian community problems regarding registration of their marriage and requested him that a Christian Registration Marriage Bill may be tabled in Parliament as the community is facing problems regarding registration of their marriages. Senator A. Rehman Malik promised with the delegation that he will move the matter in the Senate of Pakistan for necessary legislations. The delegation handed over a written application to the Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Interior & Narcotics Control Senator A. Rehman Malik for taking the notice of their genuine problems they are facing the Capital Territory of Islamabad which was accepted and discussion will be opened on their issues in the next meeting of Committee. Senator A. Rehman Malik expressed that working Christian community is living a substandard life thus it is the need of hour that a Christian town with all facilities should be constructed in every major city of the country.
Senator A. Rehman Malik also suggested that he will move in the Senate that the words ‘Sweeper’ and ‘Khakroob’ may be replaced with word ‘Municipality Worker’ which was highly appreciated and regarded by the delegation.
The delegation thanked Senator A. Rehman Malik for being a vocal voice for the rights of minorities and promoting interfaith harmony and helping Christian community in the past.
